The transportation of compressed natural gas by sea is an important and promising area of activity for our design bureau. For many years our highly qualified engineers and scientists have been working on innovative solutions in this field.
Our team is made up of experienced researchers with PhD and doctoral degrees in engineering and professors from renowned universities. They have devoted decades to the study of natural gas transportation by sea, both in liquefied (LNG) and compressed (CNG) states.
Over these years, our scientists have conducted extensive scientific research and published dozens of papers in leading scientific journals. They are the authors of the fundamental textbook “Gas Carrier Vessels”, which is used in universities to train engineers for the gas industry.
In addition, our specialists have received more than 10 patents for inventions in the field of storage and transportation of liquefied and compressed natural gas. Two of our scientists successfully defended their doctoral theses on the creation of new technologies for offshore transportation of hydrocarbon gases.
One of the key achievements of our specialists is the development of a concept for the transportation of compressed natural gas using special CNG modules. These modules are the size of standard shipping containers and can be transported on container ships or ships specially adapted for their transportation.
Advantages of CNG technology:
- Possibility of multimodal transport – by sea, railway, road transport.
- Higher safety compared to the transportation of liquefied gas.
- No gas losses during transportation.
- Possibility to use existing infrastructure for container transport.
- Although compressed gas takes up a larger volume than liquefied gas, its transportation is safer.
- Lower capital and operating costs.
Our design bureau carries out a full cycle of work in the field of CNG technologies – from scientific research to ship and equipment design.
At the research stage, our specialists develop mathematical models of natural gas compression and storage processes, perform strength calculations and optimise designs.
Next comes the stage of designing and testing prototypes of CNG modules. This involves designers, technologists, strength and reliability specialists.
At the same time, the design of gas carriers – their general ship systems, gas storage and supply systems – is underway. At this stage, knowledge of shipbuilding and gas transport equipment is required.
After that, the technology for filling and unloading CNG modules is developed, and terminals for their reception/dispatch are designed.
Thus, we are ready to offer comprehensive solutions for the transportation of compressed natural gas by sea – from technology development to commissioning.
Our specialists are ready to advise on the implementation of CNG technologies, conduct feasibility studies of the project taking into account the customer’s requirements.
